- wrist tendon entrapment syndrome in which gliding of the abductor pollicis longus and the extensor pollicis brevis tendons is restricted within the first dorsal compartment.
- Tenosynovitis - inflammation of synovial tendon sheath lining

💡 inflammation not considered to be a key component

Demographics: women, 30-50yo, maybe with other systemic inflamm (RA)
Pathophysiology
- repetitive strain and tissue trauma→ degenerative thickening of extensor retinaculum and extensor tendons→ space narrows in fibro-osseous canal → impaired tendon gliding of abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis → discomfort and funtional impairment
Risk factors
- Repetitive activities involving radioulnar deviation, such as with certain
- sports (for example, cross-country skiing, golfing)
- household chores or caregiving (for example, lifting an infant/child or pet)
- occupations (for example, hammering)
- Individuals who text a lot
- Pregnancy, postpartum period, and lactation
- Inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis
Clinical Features
- Pain (with or without swelling) of the radial styloid
- Pain may radiate to thumb or elbow, exacerbated by movement/grasping objects.
