Epidemiology: 25% of population with<35% of these aware

Aetiology:

• primary (Essential) (95%): unknown cause but increased PVR
• Secondary (5%): renal, CVS, Neuro, Endo cause

Risk factors:

• men
• increased age (peak at 75)
• ATSI
• low SES
• regional/remote
• diabetes
• famHX CKD, HTN, diabetes, dyslipidemia, stroke, early onset heart disease
• dyslipidaemia
• SNAP

Clinical Features

• most often asymptomatic.
