-gliflozen
SGLT2 is a kidney transporter that is located in the proximal tubules that acts to reabsorbed the filtered glucose (SGLT2 is up-regulated in DM (why this is isn’t fully understood))
MOA
- Inhibits sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 → reduced glucose reabsorption in the proximal tubule resulting in increased urinary excretion of glucose (~50-80 g /day) → decreasing BSL
- also stimulate fluid loss (osmosis) and therefore can be useful in hypertension and weight loss
indication
- Type 2 diabetes
- *may have a role in improving hypertension
Contraindication
eGFR persistently below 45mL/min/1.73m2
Route: Oral
