• oesophageal stricture

• oesophageal candidiasis
• GORD
• external obstruction
• Achalasia
• Barrett’s oesophagus
• Oesophageal cancer
• Oesophageal fistula
• Mallory Weiss tear
• Boerhaave’s syndrome
• Oesophageal varices

Xray + Barium Swallow (use gastrografin instead if suspect perforation)

• Helpful if something impairing movement (benign stricture, scleroderma, reflux, malignancy)
• Cant diagnose cancer from Xray
