Diagnoses
- Acute hepatitis
- Chronic liver disease
- Cirrhosis
- Hepatocellular carcinoma
- Liver metastases
- Cholangiocarcinoma

đź’ˇ USS (cause of disease, screening), CT (cancer), transient elastography (staging)

Ultrasound upper abdomen
- chronic liver disease (cause)
- alcohol related liver disease, NALFD
- increased echogenicity (hyperechoic)
- mild hepatomegaly
- Cirrhosis
- hepatocellular carcinoma screening

Normal liver and cortex of kidney have same echogenicity.

Steatosis leads to hyperechoic liver, and becomes “whiter” than kidney
Transient elastography (Fibroscan)
- chronic liver disease and staging fibrosis
- increased fibrosis → increased stiffness → altered sound propagation
