Pathophysiology

Bacteria → blood → valves → damage → fibrin/platelet deposition → bacterial adherence

limited immune response due to poor vascular supply to valves

Clinical Features

• Retinal Roth spots
• Osler’s nodes
• Janeway lesions
• splinter haemorrhages

Risk factors

• abnormal valve
• immunosuppression
• IV drug abuse
