Aetiology
- often from cirrhosis
- can be secondary to viral infection; Hep B/C and Aflatoxin (fungal food toxin from aspergillus flavus on grains, eaten by cows, toxin passed in milk.)
Demographics
- People that have risk factors → increased alcohol use, Hepatitis infections etc
- It is estimated that 2832 people will be diagnosed with liver cancer in Australia in 2021.
- Men are three times as likely to be diagnosed as women.
- usually occurs in 50% (asia) - 90% (western) cirrhosis
- increasing incidence in asia due to toxins
- increasing in western world due to increased HCV HBV
