- Synthetic version of glucagon-like peptide‑1 (GLP-1)
- Stimulates the glucose dependant release of insulin (stimulates the release at the right time such as after a meal)
- also supresses glucagon secretion, slows gastric emptying and reduces food intake → eat less → therefore associated with modest weight loss
indication: T2DM
Contraindication: MEN syndrome type 2, PM/FHx thyroid cancer, → increased thyroid cancer risk
Route: Subcut
Frequency: Exenatide is given twice daily, liraglutide once daily, and dulaglutide and semaglutide once weekly
