Demographics: Males, any age

risk Factors

• R to L cardiac shunts
• URTI
• Endocarditis
• IVDU
• poor dental hygiene
• Immunosuppression
• head trauma/surgery

Aetiology

• polymicrobial: strep viridians and staph A, coag -ve staph
• toxoplasma aspergillus and cryptococcus in immunocompromised

Pathophysiology

• spread of primary infections → single abscess
• direct inoculation (surgery, dental, trauma)
